For years Stanton ONeal envisioned a walking history tour of Deland after participating in a great tour of Louisville, Kentucky. He saw Deland as perfect for a walk; it was compact, had a great story to tell, and was historically authentic. These tours encompass parts of Stetson University, Northwest Housing district, and downtown. They were researched and presented for the first time in 2020 as a way to get outside and love history even during the stress of the COVID era.
Ok, That's done! Honestly I would love to go on an adventure with you or your group walking the streets of Deland which are screaming, "tell our stories"! Thanks, Stan.
Stanton ONeal came from Alabama with a history book and a bass guitar, not a banjo. He taught history at Deland High School for 37 years, loved most of it, and retired from a paycheck in 2008. He then got involved with the West Volusia Historical Society as a docent at Deland House Museum, Lake Helen bus tour and as a reenactor in various tours and events. He also performed his historical/musical trip through the decades of Deland, "Tip Toe Through the Tulips of Time" for various groups, plays in the First Pres praise band, and the rock band,
